Bespoke Media Walls: A Modern Essential for your Living Room

The living room has always been the heart of the home. A space to relax, entertain and spend time together. But in recent years, we’ve seen a noticeable shift in how this space functions. One feature in particular has emerged as a defining element in modern interior design: the bespoke media wall.

Built-in dark blue media cabinet with a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, lit display shelves holding books, decanters, plants and a coffee station, and lower drawers.

At Prenwood, we’ve seen a sharp rise in clients asking for custom-built media walls, designed to bring together form and function in one beautifully integrated feature. More than just a place to mount a TV, a media wall can house sound systems, display shelving and storage - all tailored to suit the way you live.

Why invest in a bespoke media wall?

A bespoke media wall gives you more than a sleek aesthetic. It can offer:

  • Fully integrated storage, keeping cables and tech neatly out of sight
  • Tailored shelving for books, decorative pieces or personal touches
  • Concealed lighting for a warm, ambient feel
  • Timber panelling or slatted fronts for texture and warmth
  • Seamless cabinetry, made to measure and designed to blend in beautifully

Whether you’re working with a large open-plan living space or a more compact snug, our media walls are always designed around your layout and lifestyle.

Custom colour media walls: Inject your personality

While we love working with natural timber, many of our bespoke media wall designs feature rich, expressive colour finished in our in-house spray booth for a flawless, long-lasting result.

Whether you're after deep forest green, soft stone grey, or something bolder, we offer a curated range of finishes, or can colour match to any tone you'd like. The result? Joinery that blends seamlessly into your interior palette, or confidently contrasts it.

Using colour in joinery allows us to:

  • Highlight architectural details like slatted timber or panelling
  • Add softness or depth to larger media wall units
  • Tie cabinetry into the broader interior scheme
  • Provide a more contemporary alternative to raw wood

All colour finishes are professionally sprayed on-site in our dedicated booth, ensuring consistency, durability and a premium finish you won’t get with off-the-shelf units.

Colour doesn’t cover the timber — it enhances the detail.

What wood is best for Media Walls?

Our design process is always led by material and context. We favour natural timbers with timeless finishes such as oak, ash and walnut. We’re careful to design joinery that feels like an extension of the home, not an afterthought.

In many of our recent projects, we’ve used:

  • Slatted oak panelling to bring rhythm and warmth to a space
  • Flush push-to-open doors for a minimalist look
  • Stone or timber tops for added durability and tactility
  • Floating elements to create a sense of lightness in open-plan rooms

We see media wall joinery as a way to introduce texture, hide clutter, and provide a clean visual anchor - all without dominating the room.
